Though the whole church is a priestly people with all the baptized faithful sharing in the priesthood of Christ [CCC, No. 1591], the sacrament of Holy Orders ensures that the mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles continues to be exercised in the church through ordained bishops, priests and deacons. [CCC, No. 1536]
Bishops exercise the fullness of the sacrament of Holy Orders, priests act as co-workers of the bishops, and deacons act as servants of all. The sacrament of Holy Orders is conferred by the “ordinary” of the Archdiocese, that is, by the Archbishop of Detroit.
The priesthood and permanent diaconate are the two orders that most people respond to at the parish level.
