Understanding the beliefs of the Catholic Church is critical to understanding the "why" behind how those beliefs become teachings and impact the choices and decisions we make every day. Grounded in the basic tenants of our Catholic faith we have a sound structure to interpret and respond to the world we live in. Without that knowledge, our rituals become simply habits, our moral choices a matter of being 'nice'.
Our ability to learn and understand changes over the course of our lives and circumstances. Sacred Heart strives therefore to offer faith education opportunities for all ages and schedules. -
How We Teach
Sacred Heart School provides both Catholic instruction and a rigorous academic program in a faith centered environment, for Pre-school through Eighth Grade students. The parish offers a number of Religious Education Programs for Children enrolled in other schools, recognizing the time constraints and busy schedules of many families. Many provide an opportunity for families to learn together.
Our programs for teens and young adults combine teachings of the Church with participant-directed social and service activities. Retreats, conferences, and an annual summer Mission Trip provide opportunities for young people to explore their faith in the context of our greater Catholic community.
Adult programs are offered to explore Catholic teaching on a mature level. For those who are considering becoming Catholic we offer an extensive preparation program The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA), which begins with learning what the Catholic Church believes and teaches. Participants are paired with sponsors throughout the process. Sponsorship is an excellent opportunity for current Catholics to 'refresh' their own knowledge. Sacred Heart also provides seasonal Scripture Study and Presentation/Discussion Group opportunities. Our Parish Library has excellent resources for individual study.
