The holy Eucharist completes Christian initiation. The Eucharist is “the source and summit of the Christian life.” The Eucharist contains the church’s entire spiritual wealth, that is, Christ himself. The other sacraments, all the ministries of the church, and all good works are bound up with the Eucharist and oriented toward it. [CCC, No. 1324] We are fortunate at Sacred Heart to be able to share in the Eucharist daily at Mass.
First Eucharist for Children Children are prepared to celebrate first holy Communion during second grade. Parents and children participate in several preparation sessions. Families may then choose to celebrate first holy Communion with just their family, with the entire group, or both. The group celebration of first Communion takes shortly after Easter at a Sunday afternoon Mass.
Eucharist for New Catholics New adult Catholics are welcomed to join the Church at the table of the Lord during the Easter Vigil each year, following preparation through the Order of Christan Initiation of Adults (OCIA).
