The Parish Giving Tree supports the AOD Refugee Resettlement program. It stands near the Baptismal font entrance starting November 30th. Parishioners are invited to take a paper ornament from the tree on which an item is listed, purchase and then return the item UNWRAPPED to church by December 21st.
Directed by Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan, the Refugee Resettlement program helped 831 people resettle from Iraq, the majority being Chaldean brothers and sisters in faith. This year more than 670 refugees relocated to metro Detroit. In 2015, immigration numbers are anticipated to rise to 900, with refugees coming from Syria. Such families have been persecuted and forced from their native lands and lost virtually all of their possessions. The Refugee Resettlement program assists new refugees in establishing their new homes by providing kitchen and household items and connecting them to educational programs and other resources to support their successful integration , independence and self sufficiency in the USA.
