The Music Ministry enhances our liturgies and celebrations with the Church's rich tradition of music, both vocal and instrumental. Some choirs and musicians also perform seasonal/thematic presentations, occasionally working with other local choirs. Participants in this ministry enjoy that special sense of community that comes from making something beautiful together, for God, and for his people. For more information please contact our Director of Music, at the Parish Office (313) 278-5555 extension 106 or email per Contact Info on this page.
The Adult Choir of Sacred Heart is a group of dedicated parishioners who lead the community in song at our liturgies. The choir sings special solemnities, the first three Sundays of each month at the 9:30 a.m. Liturgy. (The Children's Choir and Heavenly Ringers Bell Choir provide music for the 4th Sunday of each month at 9:30 a.m. Liturgy.) Adult Choir Rehearsals are every Wednesday evening running from the first Wednesday after Labor Day to the last Wednesday before Memorial Day. While some members are accomplished musicians in their own right, others contribute by learning the music by rote. All levels of ability are welcome!
Cantors are individuals whose role in our liturgies is to lead the assembly as they pray in song, combined with the role of psalmist. This is a highly specialized ministry requiring an audition and training sessions with the music director.
Adult Handbell Choir
The Adult Handbell Choir utilizes our 4-octave set of Malmark Handbells as well as our choir chimes and Whitechapel English Handbells. The group consists of 11 players and a few alternates who rehearse on Tuesday evenings for an hour and a half. They are scheduled to play liturgies throughout the year as a solo ensemble as well as in collaboration with other of our various musical groups. Anyone interested should be able to have a basic ability to read music and good hand-eye coordination.
Instrumentalists are a long-standing tradition at Sacred Heart Parish. Their contribution to sacred liturgy adds a special musical dimension to the use of the organ. If you have ability in this area please consider sharing your talent.
