The Music Ministry enhances our liturgies and celebrations with the Church's rich tradition of music, both vocally and instrumentally. Participants in this ministry enjoy that special sense of community that comes from making something beautiful together, for God, and for his people. CANTORS Cantors are individuals whose role in our liturgies is to lead the assembly as they pray in song, combined with the role of psalmist. This is a specialized ministry requiring an audition and training sessions with the music director. Cantors are typically scheduled to sing at Mass 2-3 times per month. CHOIR The Adult Choir of Sacred Heart is a group of dedicated parishioners who lead the community in song at our liturgies. The choir sings every weekend at 9:30 am Mass from the first weekend after Labor Day through Pentecost. They rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm. The Sacred Heart Adult Choir welcomes anyone who wishes to participate. You do not need to have previous experiecne singing in a choir. Please join us! All are welcome!
CONTEMPORARY ENSEMBLE The Contemporary Ensemble at Sacred Heart is a group of vocalists and instrumentalists that lead our community in song every other weekend (typically at the11:30am Mass on Sundays, and occasionaly at the 4:30pm Mass on Saturdays). They rehearse every other Thursday from 7:00pm - 8:30pm. This ensemble focuses primarily on music written in the contemporary and praise & worship style. If you are a singer or instrumentalist, please consider joining us! No previous experience in a Contemporary Group is necessary.
CHAMBER CHOIR The Chamber Choir at Sacred Heart will meet once a month, typically the second Saturday of the month at 2:30pm to rehearse and then perform at the 4:30pm Mass the same day. Members of the Chamber Choir are expected to come prepared, having learned their music at home, with rehearsal being a time to polish the music to be sung at Mass. Previous experience singing in a choir is required.
HAND BELL CHOIR The Adult Handbell Choir utilizes our 4-octave set of Malmark Handbells as well as our choir chimes and Whitechapel English Handbells. Although the ability to read music is a helpful skill, it is not required to ring bells. The bell choir will rehearse on Thursday evenings from 6:00pm - 7:00pm, and they will ring at several Masses throughout the year. Please contact the music director if you are interested in joining the handbell choir.
INSTRUMENTALISTS Instrumentalists are a long-standing tradition at Sacred Heart Parish. Their contribution to sacred liturgy adds a special musical dimension to the use of the organ and the piano. We especially love having instrumentalists play during the Christmas and Easter seasons. If you have ability in this area, please consider sharing your talent.
JUNIOR YOUTH CHOIR The Junior Youth Choir warmly welcomes all children of Sacred Heart parish and school, ranging from 2nd - 5th grade. This is a great opportunity for Children to become active in the parish community and learn the basics of singing in a choir. The Junior Youth Choir rehearses on Tuesday afternoons from 3:45pm - 4:30pm from September through May, and will typically sing at the first weekend of the month at the 11:30 am Mass on Sunday. They will also sing on Christmas Eve at the 4:30pm Mass.
ADVANCED YOUTH CHOIR The Advanced Youth Choir warmly welcomes all children of Sacred Heart parish and school, ranging from 6th - 8th grade. This is a great opportunity for youth to continue strengthening their music skills and their singing skills. The choir will focus on students learning more difficult repertoire and learning how to sing in harmony. The Advanced Youth Choir rehearses on Wednesday afternoons from 3:45pm - 4:30pm and will typically sing the first weekend of the month 11:30 am Mass on Sunday. They will also sing on Christmas Eve at the 4:30pm Mass.
